An AI Game-Changer for Your Business? Google's Alleged Leak and the Future of AI Marketing..

GetInference AI for Marketing newsletter

Welcome back to your favorite AI marketing newsletter! 🙏🙏

This week, we're diving into the alleged Google "We Have No Moat and neither does OpenAI" leaked document. Is it truly a leak, or is there more to the story?

If you're not caught up, Google seems to admit they're losing the AI race, with OpenAI following suit. But wait! A third player, the OpenSource community, is sneaking up and nabbing their lunch.

Yes, Google is facing a genuine challenge (just take a gander at this LLM zoo map for a bird's-eye view), but could this "leak" be a cunning ploy for Google to steal the spotlight and test the waters? After all, "attention is all you need."

Here's the scoop: By "leaking" this memo, Google temporarily diverts attention from its rivalry with OpenAI and onto the open-source community. This strategic move reframes the story, making it seem like Google isn't battling OpenAI but joining forces with the open-source world to drive innovation.

It's a sympathy-and-trust play: The leaked memo has Google owning up to their weaknesses and applauding the open-source community's accomplishments. In doing so, they might be angling for public sympathy and, more crucially, the trust of top AI developers and researchers.

It sways OpenAI's strategy: This "leak" could be Google's attempt to nudge OpenAI toward a more open approach, reducing any perceived competitive edge OpenAI might have.

By appearing to shift toward a more open strategy, Google might be encouraging OpenAI to follow suit.

Not a bad outcome, really—quite welcome, in fact. We need transparency.

But... History repeats itself: users crave simplicity, so we'll likely see a Windows-Linux split, with the former dominating around 75-80% and the latter a mere 1-2%.

This brings us to the essential question of safeguarding your organization in the future. I see two paths:

For most marketers, SMEs and SMBs, the key lies in mastering dominant tools like ChatGPT for text, Adobe Firefly for images, and the yet-to-be-determined X for video (maybe Runway?).

But It's not just about mastering prompts for these platforms—it's about diving deep into the nitty-gritty and getting creative. Two game-changing plugins for marketers are the Code Interpreter Plugin and the Web Browser Plugin. Harnessing these creatively will give you an edge over those who don't. Here's why:

The new ChatGPT Code Interpreter is like a data scientist on steroids, enabling jaw-dropping feats never before possible:

a. Create any type of visualization, chart, or graph, from heatmaps to histograms to scatter plots and pivot tables. A data-driven future demands natural language analysis.

b. Use it for principal component analysis, e.g., finding correlations between Spotify playlists.

c. Upload a Netflix (or similar) dataset and get content breakdowns by country.

d. Uncover hidden trends in revenue datasets.

e. Extract colors from an image to create a color palette.

f. Visualize trends in a dataset.

g. Generate animated gifs from scratch.

h. Do basic video editing, like converting gifs to longer MP4s with slow zoom.

i. Upload a dataset with market data and devise business strategies for each segment.

The Web Browser Plugin is your ticket to turbocharging your marketing efforts and becoming a versatile maestro. Here's how it can help:

a. Size up your top 5 industry competitors, with a concise SWOT overview.

b. Analyze customer reviews of [competitor's name] across their website, Google Reviews, and more. Sum up the top 3 pros and cons, and link to the sources.

c. Uncover fresh marketing channels for [your product/service], listing the top 5 with short descriptions and case study or article links that prove their success.

d. Pinpoint industry influencers, offering their names, social handles, and profile links.

e. Spot potential partnership opportunities, with a brief rundown of each company and a link to their website.

f. Optimize your website for SEO, providing 5 actionable tips backed by reputable sources.

g. Discover relevant industry events and conferences, including names, dates, locations, and website links.

h. Keep up with industry trends and news, summarizing key developments and linking to reputable sources.

i. Find cost-effective ad platforms with high ROI, describing the top 5 with source links.

j. Optimize your social media strategy, comparing your business to competitors and offering 5 improvement suggestions.

k. Unearth successful industry case studies, summarizing their strategies and key takeaways.

l. Analyze customer feedback, reporting common praises and complaints with source links.

m. Identify new market opportunities, describing the top 3 emerging trends.

n. Monitor a competitor's content strategy, outlining their focus, frequency, and engagement.

o. Improve customer service, listing 5 best practices with case study or article links.

p. Research pricing strategies, comparing your business to top competitors and suggesting potential improvements.

q. Develop an effective referral program, analyzing 3 successful examples and tailoring suggestions for your business.

r. Improve your website's conversion rate, offering 5 actionable recommendations.

s. Enhance your branding strategy, providing 5 tips based on successful industry examples.

With the Web Browser Plugin, you'll become a marketing powerhouse capable of tackling a diverse range of tasks, ensuring your business stays ahead of the game.

The bottom line: ChatGPT won't steal your job, but someone who wields ChatGPT like a pro just might.

So Is the sun setting on the age of marketing specialists?

Well, on one hand, it might just be. You see, AI tools are lowering the entry barriers, making expertise in a single domain (like content, paid search, SEO, and so on) a potential competitive liability. With AI managing the nitty-gritty, marketers need to embrace their inner maestro and conduct an orchestra of AI tools to achieve peak performance. So, becoming a strategic generalist armed with specialized tools and prompts is the way forward.

On the other hand, exploring the open-source world of LLMs and embeddings offers a new frontier. Keep in mind, though, that everything you feed into ChatGPT is shared with OpenAI, and you should consider it public domain . Plus, if you prompt ChatGPT about something from your organization's documents, you'll get inaccurate responses—troublesome if you're dealing with highly technical or domain-specific language.

The solution? Augment your local LLMs with custom documents using embeddings to capture semantics. These numerical vectors can learn different features depending on the number of dimensions they have. You'll need a database with all your document embeddings, and if your documents are not in plain text, you'll need techniques like web scraping with Python Beautiful Soup or Python PyPDF library to extract text from web pages or PDF files, respectively.

To create embeddings, use services like OpenAI's Embeddings API, Hugging Face, or your custom transformer model. Store them in a "vector database," like Faiss by Facebook or Pinecone. With this setup, you'll have a tailor-made LLM application for your proprietary data.

Why not fine-tune the LLM instead of using context embeddings? While fine-tuning is a solid option, it can be costly and complex. Context embeddings offer a more straightforward approach with minimal costs and effort.

SPOTLIGHT

This week's spotlight shines on several exhilarating developments for marketers:

👉 4 Ways AI Could Revolutionize Search Advertising:

It won't be long before AI tools (like ChatGPT and Bard) incorporate ads into their interfaces. Imagine creating a legal contract that includes a call-to-action, like “Need a lawyer to review this contract? Click here.”

How about AI plugins? Picture a user asking a chatbot to book a trip to Paris, arranging their schedule and reserving tables at top-rated restaurants, all without interacting with traditional blue links (i.e., paid ads).

In this scenario, businesses bid on sales, not keywords. Marketers will still pay for chatbot recommendations, but conversions will happen automatically (e.g., chatbots booking restaurants on users' behalf).

Plus, marketers might save money. If a user asks a chatbot for specific flight criteria, only airlines meeting those criteria will receive payment for clicks.

👉 AI-Generated Ads Video: A couple of AI-generated ads have recently made waves for their bizarre nature:

Twitter user Pizza Later shared an AI-generated ad for a fictional pizza place called Pepperoni Hug Spot. With a catchy tagline and peculiar ingredients, it's a quirky delight (Link).

Synthetic Summer, a beer commercial by London-based Private Island, features typical summer scenes alongside flaming fireballs and beer-can hands. It's so bad it's good (Link).

👉 AI on the Edge: Edge AI allows AI agents to access and control physical tools. This plugin enables ChatGPT to interact with IoT devices, like IP cameras, opening up new possibilities for AI-human interactions (Link).

👉 Hot Off the Press: Say hello to MLC LLM for Android – a groundbreaking solution that enables large language models to be deployed natively on Android devices. This innovative framework offers a productive environment for users to optimize model performance to suit their specific needs.
